Pre-purchase questions and guidance
The cheapest way to buy a Ledger often turns out to be the most expensive one — because the savings disappear the first time the device turns out compromised.
Misconception 1 — 'Second-hand saves money'
A second-hand device may have its original phrase held by the previous owner. Unless you factory-reset and re-initialise, you are sharing the wallet.
Misconception 2 — 'Marketplace deep discounts are the same device'
Deep discounts from anonymous sellers are red flags — pre-tampered units, counterfeits, or sold-as-new second-hand goods.
Misconception 3 — 'Unbranded accessories are just as good'
Cables and cases — often fine. Anything touching the phrase or firmware — not fine.
The real cheapest option
Buy new from ledger.com or an authorised reseller. Combine with the official store's accessory bundle if that's priced better than standalone items.
Safety reminder: Never share the recovery phrase or PIN. Low prices and unknown channels are high-risk; verify authorisation and seals, and if in doubt, cancel the order or return the device immediately.
